History

Arthur Hynes was born and raised in County Down, Ireland. He emigrated from Ireland to America in the 70s and spent 5 years working as an apprentice jeweler and learning the trade in Brooklyn.

In 1981 he opened Hynes Jewelers with his wife Mary in Cranford, New Jersey and it has been in the same location ever since.  He has made improvements and expansions throughout the years, but the original character of the store still remains.  Arthur, who resides in Union County with his wife and family, describes his business as a fine jewelry store with an Irish accent.

Arthur has been active in the Cranford downtown community and is a member of the local Chamber of Commerce.  He served on the Downtown Management Corporation for 3 years.  He is also active in many Irish organizations including the Union County St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee, The Nugent Association, The Friendly Sons of St. Patrick (Distinguished Service Award 1999), and the Union County Emerald Society (Irishman of the Year 2005).  He was also honored with the inaugural Hudson-Coloney Award by the Center for Hope Hospice in 2004.

Hynes Jewelers is now in its 35th year.
